FAQs

How do I get to St Andrews for the Dunhill Links?

The nearest train station is Leuchars, served by ScotRail from Edinburgh Waverley (about 1 hour). From Leuchars, shuttle buses or taxis run to St Andrews (about 10 minutes). Driving from Edinburgh takes around 1 hour 15 minutes via the M90 and A91. Parking in St Andrews is very limited during the event — the train and shuttle is strongly recommended.

Are tickets valid for all three courses on the same day?

Each day ticket typically covers the designated course(s) for that day. On days where play is split across St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns, a single day ticket grants access to whichever venue is scheduled. Check the official event programme for which course hosts play on each day — the Sunday final round is always at St Andrews Old Course.

What's the best spot to watch at the Old Course?

The 18th hole grandstand is iconic — watching pros finish their round with the town of St Andrews as the backdrop is unforgettable. The Road Hole (17th) is also superb for drama. For Kingsbarns, the clifftop 15th and 16th holes offer spectacular views over the Firth of Forth.

Is there a dress code?

No formal dress code for general spectators — smart casual is perfectly appropriate. Wear layers and waterproofs; early October in Fife can be cold and changeable. Sturdy shoes or walking boots are highly recommended as you'll be covering several miles of links terrain.

What are the best pubs in St Andrews after the golf?

The Dunvegan on South Street is a classic golfer's pub. Ma Bells (in the Golf Hotel on The Scores) is lively and right near the course. The Criterion on South Street is great for a relaxed pint. The Jigger Inn at the Old Course Hotel is the most atmospheric — right beside the 17th fairway.

Who plays in the Pro-Am format?

The Dunhill Links is famous for its celebrity Pro-Am format — professional European Tour players are paired with celebrity amateurs including actors, musicians, and sportspeople. Famous past celebrities include Bill Murray, Hugh Grant, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ronan Keating. The Thursday–Saturday rounds rotate across all three courses before the Sunday final is contested solely at St Andrews.
