FAQs

How do I get to the National Theatre?

The easiest route is Waterloo station — it's about a 5-minute walk along the South Bank. You can also walk over Hungerford Bridge from Embankment tube. The NT is right on the riverside between Waterloo Bridge and Hungerford Bridge.

Where is the Dorfman Theatre within the NT?

The Dorfman is the National's smallest and most intimate space — great for this kind of charged, close-quarters drama. Enter via the main NT building on the South Bank; the Dorfman is signposted once inside. Doors to the auditorium typically open 30 minutes before curtain.

Is there parking nearby?

Parking on the South Bank is limited and pricey. We'd strongly recommend public transport. If you must drive, the National Car Park on Upper Ground (SE1) is the closest, but expect central London rates. Cycling is a great option — there are Santander Cycles docking stations right outside the NT.

What time do doors open and when should I arrive?

The NT box office opens from 9:30am. The Dorfman auditorium doors open around 30–45 minutes before the performance. Arrive with time to grab a drink at the NT bar or browse the riverside terrace — it's one of London's best free views.

Are there any good bars or restaurants nearby?

The NT's own café and bar are excellent and very popular before shows — book a table if you want a pre-theatre meal. Nearby, try the Skylon restaurant in the Royal Festival Hall, or walk five minutes to the Anchor & Hope on The Cut for proper gastropub food. The South Bank also has great street food stalls along the river.

What is the play about?

Catarina and the Beauty of Killing Fascists is a bold, genre-defying play by Portuguese writer Tiago Rodrigues. It imagines generations of a family who share a tradition: once a year, they kill a fascist. Dark, funny, theatrical, and deeply political — it's become one of Europe's most talked-about plays. A rare chance to see it in London.
