FAQs

How do I get to the Lyceum Theatre?

The Lyceum is right in the heart of the West End on Wellington Street, Covent Garden. Nearest tube is Covent Garden on the Piccadilly line (2-minute walk), or Charing Cross station is about a 5-minute walk. Temple (District/Circle) and Holborn (Central/Piccadilly) are also nearby. Buses along the Strand are plentiful too.

Is there parking nearby?

Central London parking is expensive and limited — we'd really recommend public transport. If you must drive, the NCP on Parker Street (just behind the theatre) or Drury Lane multi-storey are the closest options. Congestion Charge applies in this zone Monday–Friday until 6pm.

What time should I arrive?

Doors typically open 45 minutes before the performance. The Lion King runs approximately 2 hours 30 minutes including one interval. Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break — so aim to be in your seat 15 minutes before curtain up.

Are there good pubs or restaurants nearby?

You're spoilt for choice in Covent Garden! The Harp on Chandos Place is a brilliant real-ale pub just around the corner. For a pre-show dinner, try Dishoom on St Martin's Lane (book ahead), The Ivy on West Street, or Rules on Maiden Lane — London's oldest restaurant. For something quick, the Covent Garden piazza has plenty of options.

Is the show suitable for children?

Absolutely — it's one of the best shows to bring kids to in the West End! The recommended minimum age is 6. There are some loud moments and the wildebeest stampede scene can be intense, but most children find it magical rather than frightening. Under-3s are not admitted.

What are the best seats in the house?

Rows D–H of the Stalls give you an incredible up-close view of the puppetry and costumes. The front of the Dress Circle (rows A–C) offers a brilliant elevated view of the full stage picture — many regulars prefer it. Avoid the very back rows of the Upper Circle if you want to see facial expressions. Restricted view seats are worth it on a budget — the costumes and music still dazzle.

Can I take photos during the show?

Photography and filming during the performance is strictly not permitted — the cast work incredibly hard and the magic is best experienced live. You're welcome to take photos in the foyer and before curtain up. The Lyceum's entrance on Wellington Street makes for a great photo!
