Where exactly is Assembly Hall?
Assembly Hall is right on The Mound in Edinburgh's Old Town, just off the Royal Mile next to the Church of Scotland's General Assembly building. You can't miss it — it's a grand Gothic building with Assembly Fringe signage all over it in August. About 10 minutes' walk uphill from Waverley station.
How do I get there?
Edinburgh Waverley is your best bet by train — it's a 10-minute walk up the Royal Mile or you can grab a taxi. Lothian Buses run along the Royal Mile too. The Fringe is notoriously busy so walking or public transport beats driving by a mile. If you're coming from further out, Edinburgh Park has good tram connections into the city.
Is there parking nearby?
Honestly, avoid driving during the Fringe if you can — Edinburgh Old Town is heavily restricted and the city is absolutely rammed in August. If you must drive, Castle Terrace car park is the closest to Assembly Hall, but it fills up fast on evenings and weekends. Park and ride from the outskirts is a much saner option.
Where's a good pub before the show?
The Jolly Judge on James Court is a brilliant cosy pub just off the Lawnmarket, two minutes from Assembly Hall — classic Edinburgh howff, great ales. The Bow Bar on West Bow is another local favourite with a superb whisky selection. If you want something livelier, the Grassmarket is five minutes away and absolutely buzzing all through the Fringe.
Is Jason Byrne's show suitable for all ages?
Jason's shows are generally 16+ or 18+ — his humour is adult and his audience participation can get wonderfully rowdy. Check the Assembly Festival listing for the specific age guidance on this run. Front rows be warned: you may get picked on. It's part of the joy.

Assembly Hall typically opens doors 30 minutes before the show starts. Check your ticket for the exact showtime — Fringe shows run on tight schedules so don't be late. The bar in the venue is worth arriving early for anyway.
