FAQs
What's the dress code?
Royal Enclosure: formal — morning dress and top hat for men; dresses with a neckline, and a hat or headpiece for women (fascinator minimums apply). Queen Anne: formal, similar to Royal Enclosure. Village Enclosure: smart — no jeans, trainers, or sportswear. Windsor: smart casual. Ladies' Day (Thursday) is when the fascinators and hats really come out — the more spectacular the better!
How do I get there?
The easiest way is direct from London Waterloo to Ascot station on South Western Railway — takes around 55 minutes, and racegoer trains run frequently throughout the day. From the station it's a short 10-minute walk to the course. Trains back run until late after racing. Driving: the M3 (junction 3) and M4 (junction 6) both give easy access, but parking fills up fast — book official racecourse parking in advance.
What enclosure badge do I need?
Royal Enclosure is the most exclusive — you need a sponsorship from an existing member. Queen Anne is the next tier: great racing views, smart bars, and a buzzing atmosphere. Village Enclosure is relaxed and sociable with a festival-garden feel. Windsor is the most accessible and best for families or a more casual day out. All enclosures can watch the iconic Royal Procession.
What happens on Ladies' Day?
Thursday is the social highlight of the week — home to the Ascot Gold Cup (the 'Blue Riband' of flat racing) and the famous Best Dressed competition. Expect extraordinary hats, packed enclosures, and an electric crowd. Thursday and Saturday badges command the highest premiums — book as early as possible.
Are Royal Enclosure badges transferable?
No — Royal Enclosure badges are strictly non-transferable and are issued personally. We only list Queen Anne, Village, and Windsor Enclosure badges on this exchange. If you see a Royal Enclosure badge offered elsewhere, be very cautious.
What's the best way to watch the Royal Procession?
The Royal Procession sets off from the Golden Gates at around 2pm each day, with the royal carriages travelling down the home straight before the first race. Arrive early and position yourself near the straight-rail in any enclosure for a great view — or watch from the grandstand. It's one of the most photographed moments of the British summer.
