FAQs
How do I get to the National Theatre?
The easiest route is Waterloo station — it's about a 5-minute walk across the South Bank. You can also get the Jubilee line to Southwark and walk over the Millennium Bridge area. Buses 1, 26, 59, 68, 76, 139, 168, 172, 176 and RV1 all stop nearby.
Is there parking nearby?
Parking on the South Bank is limited and pricey. Your best bet is the NCP on Upper Ground or Waterloo station car park — but honestly, public transport is much easier. Cycling is great too; there are Santander Cycles docking stations right outside.
What's the Dorfman like — where should I sit?
The Dorfman is an intimate flexible studio space seating around 450. The configuration changes per production, but rows C–F tend to be the sweet spot — close enough to feel every moment, far enough for the full picture. Restricted view seats are clearly marked and honestly often still atmospheric for the right show.
Are there good places to eat or drink before the show?
The National Theatre's own Terrace Bar and Benugo restaurant are brilliant — great river views and buzzy pre-show atmosphere. Nearby, try Skylon at the Royal Festival Hall for something a bit smarter, or grab a street food bite at the weekend Southbank Centre Food Market. The Anchor & Hope on The Cut is a beloved local pub if you fancy a proper pint.
What time should I arrive?
The NT recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before curtain up. The Dorfman auditorium usually opens 15 minutes before the performance. Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break, so don't cut it fine!
Can I exchange my ticket if I can no longer attend?
The National Theatre has its own ticket exchange scheme — check their website first. If your ticket is eligible for peer-to-peer transfer, you can list it here at face value and we'll match you with someone who'd love your seat.
