FAQs
How do I get to the National Theatre?
The easiest route is Waterloo station — it's about a 5-minute walk along the South Bank. You can also come via Embankment on the District or Circle line and walk across Hungerford Bridge — lovely views of the Thames on the way.
Where's the best place for a pre-show drink?
The NT's own riverside bar and restaurant are great and very convenient — book ahead on busy evenings. For something nearby, try the Understudy bar on the NT's ground floor, or walk five minutes to the Anchor Bankside for a proper pub feel. The Tate Modern's restaurant is also worth it if you're making a full evening of it.
What's the Dorfman Theatre like?
It's an intimate flexible studio space — usually around 400–450 seats depending on the configuration. The audience is close to the action, which makes it electric for new writing like this. Sight lines are generally excellent wherever you sit.
Is there parking nearby?
Parking on the South Bank is expensive and limited. Honestly, public transport is the way to go — Waterloo is brilliantly connected. If you must drive, the South Bank and Waterloo area has a few NCP car parks but expect to pay a premium on show nights.
What time should I arrive?
The NT recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before curtain up. The Dorfman box office opens 45 minutes before the performance. Doors to the auditorium open about 15–20 minutes before the show starts. Latecomers are sometimes seated at a suitable break, but it's not guaranteed — so don't cut it fine!
Are the tickets I'm buying genuine face-value tickets?
